Im 24 and this is the first time I have really followed politics and the Presidential election race. Most of it is easy enough but what is so important about New Hampshire and Iowa? there are 48 other states. is the Primary different?
I have also watch every Debate on both sides and every time I hear McCain speak about the war and how “We” soldiers want to ‘stay and win” the war he is full of Sh!t. I am in the Army and have been to Afghan. and Iraq and we all know this isn’t a war we can win as far as “victories” go. But I’m not going to get into that but McCain really pisses me off. (I’m and Dem. or Rep. I make my own opinions)

New Hampshire and Iowa are the first two primary states. The candidate that wins these two states has a huge leg up in the race and gets immediate credibility.

What is important about the Iowa caucus? Why is there more news about this?

Iowa is a significant swing-state.
It’s important for the candidates that they win it over for a slightly greater chance at winning than they previously had. It helps assure that they can get a majority of votes from a state.

I mean, I just picture Iowa being so sparsly populated, with farms and little hick towns. It seems like Calif or NY would be where the most voters would reside.

They’re only important because they have early primaries.
Once the primaries are over then places like Ohio and Wisconsin become important because they’re swing states.
